DUST MONITORING

Schauenburg Systems offers locally custom-designed portable and fixed dust monitoring solutions built for various industries.

A dust monitoring system is a device, or a collection of instruments used to measure the concentration of airborne dust particles in an environment. It is commonly used in industries such as mining, construction, manufacturing and environmental management to ensure air quality and compliance with occupational safety regulations.

Dust monitoring systems can detect particulate matter (PM) of different sizes, such as PM2.5 and PM10, which can be harmful when inhaled. Dust monitoring solutions help ensure workplace safety and health standards compliance (like the Occupational Health and Safety Act or Environmental Protection Agency guidelines), manage environmental pollution and reduce the risk of respiratory issues for workers.

Schauenburg Systems offers two dust monitoring solutions. These are the SCH-Ex Fixed Dust Detector and the TM-F Ex Dust Monitor.

    SCH-Ex Fixed Dust Detector

Our stationery dust detection device continuously detects PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations in workplace environments. The detector uses a laser scattering method to measure dust concentration. If the dust concentration shown on the LCD display is higher than the preset alarm level, it will automatically trigger sound and light alarms or activate the exhaust system.

This dust detection system can send a 4-20mA signal, which is compatible with PLCs, or an RS485 digital signal to connect with the plant’s central computer. It uses embedded micro-control technology for easy operation, offers a wide range of functions, and is highly reliable. This product is ideal for monitoring indoor dust concentration in factories.

    TM-F Ex Dust Monitor

This dust detection solution is a robust industrial dust monitoring instrument designed for use in environments such as underground mining operations, processing plants, and local exhaust ventilation (LEV) filtration systems.

The TM-F Ex is built to withstand harsh conditions, making it suitable for dust-prone environments like mines, where airborne particulates pose health risks. It is also highly effective in processing plants, where dust generation is common during material handling, and in LEV filtration systems, where it ensures the efficiency of dust removal processes.

Engineered with precision and durability, the TM-F Ex dust monitor supports efficient operation and helps prevent equipment damage or system failures due to dust buildup, offering critical protection in hazardous environments.

    Frequently asked questions

    How do you monitor dust?
Dust monitoring usually involves the use of specialised dust monitoring devices that measure the concentration of airborne particles in environments prone to excessive amounts of dust.
Schauenburg Systems offers two dust monitoring devices that comply with occupational safety regulations. These are the SCH-Ex Fixed Dust Detector and the TM-F Ex Dust Monitor. These devices provide dust exposure monitoring and real-time dust monitoring with displays that show current dust levels. Our dust monitoring devices use sensors and offer continuous readings, alerting when dust concentrations exceed safe thresholds.
Dust levels are measured using different instruments and techniques, depending on the type and concentration of dust being monitored. Common methods include PM2.5 and PM10 monitors, air quality sensors, dust monitors, and the light or laser scattering method.
There are various steps to follow when checking dust levels in any given environment. These include choosing the right dust monitoring tool (fixed or portable dust monitoring devices), setting it up, measuring and recording dust levels, analysing dust levels, checking alarms and alerts, and conducting regular checks.

Easily monitor dust in various environments with our fixed and portable dust monitoring solutions. Complete the enquiry form or call us on 011 974 0006.
