The South African Department of Minerals Resources & Energy’s Level 9 intervention, which was signed into law in 2022, requires mines to implement electronic proximity detection systems (PDS systems) on all trackless mobile machinery. This intervention is designed to enhance safety measures in mining operations, protecting machinery, vehicles, operators and personnel with proximity detection systems.
